Assignment 2 - GSuite Overview
Review the following apps: Give an example of their use in education, K-12. List any current or future plans for their use. Include the subject area(s), expected benefits and any anticipated barriers to their successful use and how you could work to remedy the barrier. GSuite apps to review: Drive Document, Sheets, Slides, Form; Gmail; Sites; Classroom; Maps; Keep; Meet.
GSuite Tool: Drive | Purpose: Share and store file information |
Use in K-12 Curriculum and in Your Area: Teachers can post common files in one place that will allow for easy student access. The teacher can just share one link and all students can have access to the folder. It is also a great tool for having students submit files to one common place for easy checking and assessment.
GSuite Tool: Docs | Purpose: Excellent resource for not only typing documents, but also for its sharing abilities |
Use in K-12 Curriculum and in Your Area: Students could use Google Docs to collaborate with students in class or across the globe on learning about a specific composer, piece, instrument, or genre. By being cloud based, a shared document could be used to help students learn about music in their particular culture. Not only does this allow a student to learn about another musical culture, but allows one to share his/her musical culture with others. Students can also easily add images or links to show examples of music as examples.
GSuite Tool: Sheets | Purpose: Excellent resource that allows you to easily track anything from budgets to calculations to class lists with the ability to share and collaboratively work on spreadsheets. |
Use in K-12 Curriculum and in Your Area: The class could collaborate on practice log tracking. It would give the ability to calculate class averages from formula and equations by instrument and day in terms of the amount of time practicing. Graphs and charts could also be created to provide a visual of the results.
GSuite Tool: Slides | Purpose: Great tool for making presentations that are not only cloud based, but will look similar across any device. |
Use in K-12 Curriculum and in Your Area: Google Slides is great for creating interactive activities and quizzes, collaborative stories, and themed presentations. I have limited technology in my classroom to actually use Google Slides as this requires computers and/or a projector.
GSuite Tool: Forms | Purpose: Great tool that allows one to create easy surveys that can reach a wide audience easily. |
Use in K-12 Curriculum and in Your Area: In addition to creating quizzes and general feedback, Forms can also be used in the classroom to create digital score sheets for export; digital sign-out sheet/logs; choose your own adventure stories; information collection like email and phone numbers; and sign up sheets for school projects and activities. Forms may be shared through links or can be emailed to participants.
GSuite Tool: Gmail | Purpose: Way to easily communicate with parents and teachers |
Use in K-12 Curriculum and in Your Area: Great way to provide communication home for parents regarding the instrumental program. Gmail also allows you to communicate with teachers and staff to problem solve without being physically present.
GSuite Tool: Sites | Purpose: Create websites |
Use in K-12 Curriculum and in Your Area: You can reach a wide audience without providing individual resources to that audience. Assignments and events can easily be added, while contact forms can make teacher contact easier for both the parent, student, and community. Material can easily be updated and integration with other Google applications make it a very useful tool for educators.
GSuite Tool: Calendar | Purpose: To keep track of dates; appointments; and events |
Use in K-12 Curriculum and in Your Area: Invite parents; teachers; school; and community to events. Set appointment reminders. Schedule performances and meetings.

Tony -Thanks for sharing assignment 2, a GSuite overview. Seven Drive tools and their use were defined by purpose and that purpose's use in K-12 curriculum.
ReplyDeleteDocument use seems to be the top item used in your program. Very unfortunate that Slides are not able to be used because you do not have a laptop/projector set up. Seems your site should be able to provide the room with a set-up. You could have students use Slides much like you use Document for - preparing reports in slide format that could also have images, video and audio segments.
Forms can be used offline for surveys and a sheet could be used as a database to organize music-related research on a musical topic. Sheets do not have to include formula (math) - just text and images can be stored in a Sheet for later use in a Document or Slides presentation,
